This one was unusual for me because it all came together fairly quickly. It follows a well-used format for communion – focusing on the bread, the wine and then the sending out. But its defining characteristic is that is that in the chorus we focus on the ‘communion’ being our collective communion with one another and with God. The bread and the wine are things we gather around, but the communion happens between us and God. So it’s intended to be a corporate expression, a celebration of our togetherness, rather than a personal preparation. Musically, it’s supposed to be quite robust and declaratory, and can be sung boldly!

lyrics
[V1]
Jesus, you call us to this, your table,
meeting our hunger
with living bread;
now, as we share in your broken body,
so our hearts are fed.
[C]
This is our communion,
gathered here in union with you,
we are one.
Yours will be the song we sing,
evermore remembering your cross,
and all you’ve done,
until you come.
[V2]
Jesus, you draw us to taste your mercy,
meeting our thirst
with your cup of wine;
now, by your blood, you declare us holy,
filled with life, divine.
[V3]
Jesus, you send us to love and serve you,
meeting the world
with your truth and grace;
now, by your Spirit, you lead us onward,
to your glorious praise.

The whole album is a great idea with lots of good execution. The track "Arise, Shine, for Your Light has Come" is a stunning standout. Our church used it four services in a row! Kent Reeder
