about

The words of this communion song were inspired in the first instance by an old hymn by Reginald Heber - ‘Bread of the World, in mercy broken’. The song itself has undergone an almost complete transformation through the collaborative process that we have developed working together at Resound London, resulting in a simple, spacious song that focuses on the two elements of the bread and the wine, with musical interludes that allow time for contemplation of the spiritual meal which is being shared. The final verse acknowledges how Christ meets with us in communion and concludes with a prayer that we might continue to know God’s presence daily, staying close to our Saviour.

lyrics

[V1]
Living Bread in mercy broken,
Jesus’ body for our need;
we give thanks as we receive it
for this bread is life indeed.

[V2]
Cup of wine, the blood of Jesus,
poured out freely for our sin;
as we drink we know forgiveness
for this cup has grace within.

[V3]
Loving saviour, bread of heaven,
here you meet us with your grace;
daily may we know your presence
and abide in you always.
